Where to Find Gold Lego Bricks: Is This Brick Worth $15,000?
Gold prospectors and panning enthusiasts usually sell the nuggets, flakes and dust they find in their raw form . . . but if you’re a LEGO fan, you might want to check out this online auction to see a fun idea for what to do with any spare gold you might have laying around.
This 14K Gold solid gold LEGO brick was one of a few that were given out to company employees who worked at a factory in Hohenwestedt, Germany during the years of 1979 to 1981. The gold bricks were given as employee appreciation gifts to workers who had been with the company for 25 years.
The golden LEGO brick is the same size as a real plastic 2X4 LEGO brick, and apparently it’s a working piece that you could really use to build with. The asking price? About $15,000.
Back in 1980, gold wasn’t worth nearly as much per ounce as it is today, so LEGO didn’t have to invest nearly that much into having these made for their employees.
